REFLECTION JOURNAL #2-SPACE

7/25/17-Session 2
Theme:  SPACE

During today's work, I enjoyed learning about the motifs for spatial pathways in regards to the kinesphere.  I have never learned these in any  previous LMA courses so exploring these concepts physically and through written means was helpful, especially to contrast to the locomotor movements on pathways.  I am interested to see if I might add some of this concept when we explore the concept of axial movement in personal space with my 6th graders.  I currently spend more time on the concept of traveling pathways and less time on spatial pathways...choreographically this will help bring in new movement manipulations.

An "aha" moment today was connecting the LMA work, in particular the dimensions, planes, & diagonals into other movement forms, genres or choreographic work. I appreciate these visual tools and feel that they will help many of my students make these connections as well.

I also enjoyed seeing the multiple variations of pathway interpretations and locomotor traveling movements in the collaborative work. The work was very clear yet also diverse. In addition, I felt the work that had some unison movement in contrast to the individual pathway and movement choices was more enjoyable to watch. The traveling as a cohesive and close knit clump during one of the group's pieces also affirmed that traveling does not always have to be something we do individually or separated from one another. I appreciated this formation and unity in contrast with individual pathways in varying directions.
